Debbie Fernandez recently retired as branch manager of the U. S. Small Business Administration's Corpus Christi Branch Office.
As branch manager, Fernandez oversaw delivery of the SBA's loan guarantee programs, business development, counseling and training for the Coastal Bend area of the 14-county South Texas district.
The primary focus in support of the agency mission was to assist small businesses in their formation and growth in order to create jobs and play a vital role in the economic development of the district, the state and the nation.
Debbie contributed several levels of knowledge and commitment to the South Texas area as an outstanding SBA employee. Her business experience in the community and financial background made her a natural fit for the position of branch manager for the Corpus Christi area.
Debbie was with SBA for more than 25 years, and since July 1998 had served as a business development specialist at the SBA.
During this time, she has worked closely with area lenders, local chambers of commerce, economic development companies, as well as numerous small business clients, to deliver SBAs programs and services to many local small business communities. Fernandez also served as SBA's liaison to SCORE Corpus Christi and Del Mar College Small Business Development Center; two of the agencies most vital resource partners that provide counseling and training to small businesses.
Debbie holds a bachelors degree in business management, graduating cum laude from Pan American University, now The University of Texas Pan American.
